Of the Classis Conchylia, Ordo Pectinidæ. Shell orbicular–falcate, valves unequal; the right notably convex, the left sub-planate. Both are adorned with twelve to seventeen broad radiating costæ. Dwells in sandy bottoms of the Northern & Occidental European Ocean, subsisting by filtration of the finest nutritive atoms.
