Of the Order Gastropodes, Famil. Turritellidæ. Shell elongated, conical, attaining near six French pouces, composed of thirty or more closely imbricated whorls diminishing to an acute summit. Found plentiful upon sandy or argillaceous bottoms of the Indian and Pacific Seas, where it burrows with a slow yet indefatigable motion, subsisting on the minutest algæ.
